Eco-Friendly Homes: Re-using Shipping Containers

We would not have believed it, but the unique architectural lines of this home are based upon the foundation of a shipping container. Yes, that's right! A new movement is taking place in architecture from those who are interested in re-using materials and we have a few links we want to share with you.

In May 2007, we learned about a growing movement toward reusing shipping containers for housing. We  (MSNBC News story) have begun to do more research to learn more about this trend. We have also  found a few photos you might enjoy reviewing. The best part of all is knowing that you are re-using materials to protect the environment. And the pricing for shipping container homes is LESS than HALF a traditional home - due to oversupply in ports since the US is more of an "import" than an export nation. ARTLOAN Program: Linking Artists & Corporations

Robin Wilson Home partnered with a Wall Street law firm to create a new program that we plan to implement with other corporate partners. ARTLOAN is a way for corporate partners to link with emerging and established artists to provide exhibition space, and also provides an opportunity to link artists with potential clients.

The highlight of the exhibition is the artist, Angelo Mariano, who has exhibited his work in Japan, Europe and the US with a growing reputation.

His large etchings and monotypes (left, Feature piece in the entry foyer of the law firm) have been sold to both corporate and private collections throughout the world. His work is also in the Collection of Prints at the New York Public Library.

Another painting is now  a cover for Raimondo Salomone's book, "Peace Be With You", published by PublishAmerica in January 2007. Mr. Mariano's work is sold in the Gallery of Graphic Arts (GOGA) of New York.

Last night, the Wall Street law firm held an opening gala to announce the ARTLOAN program to the public and to showcase the artwork. Of 40 submissions, the firm selected 12 artists whose work will remain on exhibition until June 2008.
